The government has announced the establishment of an Open Access Food Innovation Network to be established across New Zealand with funding of up to $21 million. The purpose of the network is to encourage the food and beverage industry to develop both new and added value products, with a view to increasing exports and economic growth. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Economic Development (MED), is a collaboration between the government, industry, research and education providers and local government. The network will initially comprise of four hubs, each having a different focus:
