Opportunity Hamilton has been acknowledged for its role as the business engagement face of RWC 2011 in Waikato.

The economic development agency was the official business engagement provider for RWC2011 in the region, helping local Business Club members maximise their contact with tens of thousands of global visitors.

More than 130,000 international guests visited New Zealand for the global sporting fixture.

Leon Grice, of the New Zealand 2011 Office, said feedback from off-shore Business Club members had been “extremely positive” with some relationships beginning to turn into deals.

“Opportunity Hamilton has been part of a team of people committed to improving international perceptions of New Zealand as a place to do business,” Leon said.

“We learned that people travelling the world to attend major events always like to keep an eye out for business opportunities or make new business connections. However, they prefer it when these connections are made over a glass of wine at a vineyard, while out fishing or while watching a rugby match rather than in a seminar or boardroom,” he said.

Opportunity Hamilton will continue to liaise with the New Zealand 2011 Office about opportunities for Business Club members.
